What is Password Security?

Passwords are often the first line of defence for our online accounts. However, using simple passwords, reusing the same password across multiple services or sharing passwords with others can make several accounts vulnerable at once. If one account is compromised, attackers may try the same credentials on other websites and services.

A strong password should be long, unique and difficult to predict. Avoid using easily discoverable information such as your name, birthday, phone number or common words. Using a password manager can help you create and securely store unique passwords for different accounts, so you do not have to remember them all yourself.

For important accounts, enable multi-factor authentication whenever possible. Never share your passwords or verification codes, and change a password immediately if you believe it has been exposed. Good password security is not about remembering complicated combinations. It is about using a different, strong password for every important account and adding extra layers of protection wherever possible.
